It may not be as difficult as you think to get a suite on your home. Best Practice Architecture made it look simple when they converted an old shed into an elegant suite. The Granny Pad is a backyard suite in Seattle, Washington. It was built for an elderly relative. The tiny house was built on top of a small detached shed the family already owned. With some modifications and some rearranging, the shed has become a spacious apartment for Grandmother. She moved in so that she could care for her grandchildren. It is located in Seattle’s Maple Leaf neighbourhood and was completed in 2018. Hartman Kable constructed the property. Best Practice designed the building. Best Practice was established in 2011 and is a design-focused firm in Seattle. The design firm handles a variety of projects, including commercial and residential. They strive to find the perfect balance between beauty and function while still giving their clients all they could want.
The family that owns this property originally wanted an apartment or condo to house their grandmother. However, it was impossible to afford anything. Because of the high prices in Seattle’s market, they didn’t want a large house and were open to any solution. Best Practice was able to help them create a beautiful accessory dwelling unit on their property. The idea was a hit with the family. The family would not have to move and the grandmother would not have to pay high rent prices or find a new place. They would also be able take care of each other easily because they would be living close together. The best part is that they won’t have to live together, which allows them their privacy and gives them their space. The shed/garage space that was already there was designed to match the home. It was small and in dire need of attention. They created something completely different, which looks amazing and is not the same as the house.
The tiny home is a stylish, black cottage-style home with offset gabled structures. One of the sections is identical to the pre-existing Garage, while the other is brand new. The Granny Pad appears quite substantial from the outside. This extends into the home. It is amazing to realize that this area is only 571 sq. feet. Because the occupant has limited mobility, the floor plan is set up on one floor. A mezzanine loft area is available for additional storage. This is always useful in tiny houses. The tiny house feels spacious and open due to its high ceilings and all the skylights and windows. The design features a nice mix of white and wood, which creates a warm atmosphere while keeping the space feeling spacious. The tiny house has a kitchenette and a dining table, which is great for Grandmother to cook her own meals or invite guests over. The living room is located near the front. It has some of her old furniture and enough space for a sofa or a coffee table. These spaces have more privacy because the bedroom and bathroom are located at the rear of the house.
