Hand-built wooden homes make for some of the most comfortable and warm homes in the world. Particularly tiny houses like this one built in the forest of Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada. Rebecca Grim is the owner of the Keva tiny home. Rebecca is a yoga instructor and designed and built the tiny home with Rudy Hexter, her friend and carpenter, and Lenny, his apprentice. The home is 22 feet in length and measures 168 square feet inside. Her living space is also extended outdoors by a porch that she built out of pallets. It measures 8 feet by 8. The west coast of Canada has temperatures that rarely drop below 0 degrees Celcius, even in winter. She could use this porch year-round if she so desired. If the house is not in use, the deck can be dismantled and a shelter made of plexiglass surrounds the deck to keep rain out. You can sit down and enjoy the beautiful surroundings or host guests outdoors for a meal.
The house she lives in is a tiny house built on wheels on a trailer of steel. But you wouldn’t be able to tell it from the outside. It looks like it was built right on top of the land. The trailer is very well covered. It took the Keva couple 6 months to build, and they finished it in the summer 2015 for $25,000CAD. The tiny house on wheels looks so cozy inside. The cast-iron stove has a handmade surround of rock. The sitting area features a handmade bench and large windows that let in light and allow for views of the trees and greenery. The kitchen has a beautiful handcrafted wooden counter on one side and another on the opposite. The kitchen features a deep ceramic sink and a built-in gas cooktop. She also has a wonderful bathroom with a galvanized metal feeding trough for the bathtub that would allow for a deep soak. She also has a tub and a shower curtain rod. The bathroom has a glass entry that leads out to the outside. She uses an outhouse instead of a composting one.
Upstairs you’ll find the sleeping loft, which feels very spacious thanks to its shed-style roofed and skylight. The skylight can also be used for star gazing during clear nights. She also has good storage space with a wardrobe. Rebecca rents out the spot where she places her tiny house on wheels for a few hundred dollars per month. She also has easy access to the laundry facilities in the main house, which is a plus. She enjoys saving money to travel, and when she returns from her adventures, she will have a home to return to. She is also interested in helping others build and design tiny houses on wheels. She will help with any questions or assist them with their tiny house design. Rebecca’s tiny house design is amazing and anyone who is interested in building or living in a tiny home should check it out. Her tiny house designs and plans are also available on her website.
